Frequently Asked Questions

  • A movement director is responsible for shaping the physical language of a show based on the creative vision of a director or a performer. It can help you find or refine the movement choices for your performance, for a character, a group of characters, a particular scene or for the entire show.

A movement director works closely with a performer or director to research and “propose a physical language, devise training methods or teach skills that will help facilitate a specific physical style.” The movement director will research or create information that influences the body of the character. This can include information about social and physical conditions, age, etiquette of the time period of the play or of a specfific country, as well as specialist movements like acrobatics, period dance, or chorus work.

Movement direction is not choreography: although some movement directors are also choreographers, the two are different.

Fight and intimacy are two specialisms within the field of movement direction. If your show contains fight scenes or intimate scenes please contact a specialist fight or intimacy director or ask us and we will help you find one.

Each session is tailored to your specific needs and goals, helping you give birth to your creations respecting your artistic choices and autonomy, and providing you with empowering tools and technique.

  • Embodiment is based on the principle that the body and the mind are an inseparable whole and that human cognition is largely influenced by the structures of the body (morphology, sensory and motor systems) and how we interact with the physical world around us. Embodiment is the foundation of different somatic therapies and it can be used in a variety of settings. It employs a set of tools and techniques from many eastern and western somatic practices, such as free movement, body scans, centring, self-regulation, energy release, breathing practices, grounding, and many more. Our coaches use embodiment techniques to support the artist with challenges they may face during the creative process as well as to open up the creative imagination.
